Anyone At All? Post By: Ginnie

Message: My mother was recently diagnosed with
lung cancer, small cell and limited to
her right lung and lymph nodes of the
throat. She has an 80% chance at
surviving and getting it into remission,
and starts chemo either next week or
week after that.

Sounds great, right?

She has no ride to chemo or to
radiation. I don't have a permit yet,
and we don't have that much family here.
She's called around, and we can't find
anyone to take her. My father says that
he can't take off anymore work to take
her there when she starts chemo because
his boss will fire him.

I've been praying. I've tried everything
to get my mind off of it- my friends
have their own problems like divorce,
and personal issues- I just need some
kind of shoulder to lean on.

I feel so alone. I don't know anyone
with a parent or close relative who's
had or has cancer.

I am sorry that you feel alone. Call the
Cancer Center's at the local hospitals
and the ACS navigator, they can provide
your mom with free rides. There are lots
of resources out there. You need
someone to help you get started

Call the American Cancer Society in
your area. They provide free rides to
and from cancer treatment centers for
patients in just the same situation as
your mom. It is called "Road to
Recovery" If you don't know where the
American Cancer Society is located, call
1-800-ACS-2345 and they will direct you
to your nearest site.

Ginnie-
I am so sorry to hear about your situation. You and
your family will be in my thoughts and prayers as
your mother begins treatment. You are certainly
not alone in facing this trial.

When I was 9 years old my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. My feelings ranged from sad to confused to hopeful. My feelings don't matter- all that matters is that my mother lives a faith-filled life and the holy spirit heals her.
